French-Algerian defender Yanis Zouaoui has joined Montpellier from Le Havre AC on a permanent transfer, signing a contract until 30 June 2028.
The 28-year-old left-back moves to Montpellier after one season with Le Havre, whom he joined from FC Martigues in July 2024.
Born in Marseille, Zouaoui is a left-footed defender who stands at 1.83m and has spent the majority of his career in the French football system.
Zouaoui makes move within French football
Zouaoui’s transfer was completed on 28 August 2026, bringing his spell at Le Havre to an end.
He made his Ligue 1 debut with Le Havre and featured once in the competition during the 2026-27 campaign.
His move to Montpellier now takes him into a new chapter, with the club competing in Ligue 2 this season.
Career built through French football
Zouaoui began his career with Cote Bleue before joining FC Martigues in 2017.
He subsequently spent a season with SC Toulon before returning to Martigues in 2021 on a free transfer.
He later helped Martigues progress through the French football system before earning his move to Le Havre.
The defender also had a spell with Romanian club Foresta Suceava, joining the side in November 2020 after a period without a club.
Montpellier strengthen at left-back
Montpellier have now secured an experienced option for the left side of their defence.
Zouaoui’s natural left foot and experience across different levels of French football give the club additional depth as they compete in Ligue 2.
The defender holds both French and Algerian nationality and will remain at Montpellier for the next two seasons under his new contract.
His move marks the end of his time at Le Havre and gives Zouaoui an opportunity to play a more prominent role as Montpellier pursue their objectives for the 2026-27 campaign.
