Alessio Romagnoli has left Lazio to continue his career in Qatar, with the 31-year-old Italy defender completing a move to Al-Sadd.
Al-Sadd confirmed that Romagnoli has signed a long-term contract with the club, keeping him in Qatar until 2029. The move brings an end to his time with Lazio, where he had played since joining the Rome-based club in 2022.
Romagnoli’s transfer to the Qatar Stars League side had previously been reported to be worth three million euros. The fee was reported before the move was completed, while Al-Sadd’s official announcement confirmed the defender’s arrival and the length of his agreement.
The experienced centre-back spent the previous four seasons representing Lazio. During the last Serie A campaign, he made 32 appearances in Italy’s top flight.
Across those matches, Romagnoli was shown five yellow cards and was sent off once. His departure means Lazio will lose a defender who had been a regular contributor during his spell at the club.
Romagnoli began his senior career at Roma before moving to Sampdoria and then Milan. He later joined Lazio in 2022, returning to the capital and becoming part of the club’s defensive group. His latest move takes him outside Italy for the first time in his professional career, with Al-Sadd becoming his new club.
The Qatari side have agreed terms with the defender through 2029, giving Romagnoli a lengthy commitment as he begins this next stage of his career. At 31, he arrives with extensive experience from Serie A and a record of regular top-flight involvement.

Romagnoli’s final season in Serie A included 32 league appearances, five bookings and one red card. He will now continue playing in the Qatar championship after completing his move from Lazio to Al-Sadd.
