Al Ahly have reduced the players’ rest period during the current Egyptian Premier League suspension from five days to four, as the coaching staff adjusts the team’s training programme during the international break.
Wael Gomaa, the football director of Al-Ahly Club, said the decision was taken as part of the programme prepared for the squad while domestic league action is suspended due to the international schedule.
“the technical staff decided to give the players a break from training for 4 days, as part of the program set for the team during the Premier League’s suspension due to the international schedule.”
The change in the rest period comes after Al Ahly completed their latest training session on Wednesday morning at the Mokhtar El Tetsh Stadium in Gezira.
The session followed the team’s 2-0 victory over Abu Qir Fertilizers in the fifth round of the Egyptian Premier League.
Players who featured in the match were given recovery exercises designed to help them deal with fatigue. They also took part in ball exercises as the coaching staff continued preparations for the next phase of the season.
The coaching staff had decided to hold the training session before the players began their rest period in an effort to ensure that the physical workload was balanced across the squad.
Those who did not take part in the match against Abu Qir Fertilizers completed more demanding training to compensate for their limited involvement in the game.
Al Ahly’s coaching staff also intends to use the league suspension as an opportunity to manage the players’ physical condition while working on the readiness of the squad.
The break will also provide time for injured players to continue their preparations, with the coaching staff aiming to improve their condition before the team returns to official competition.
The decision to reduce the rest period means the players will return to training after four days rather than the five days that had initially been planned.
Al Ahly went into the break on the back of another league victory, defeating Abu Qir Fertilizers 2-0.
Ahmed Sayed Zizo opened the scoring before Hussein El Shahat added the second goal to secure all three points for the Egyptian giants.
The result extended Al Ahly’s positive start to the league campaign. They began the season with a 3-2 victory over El Sharqia Enppi before recording a 2-0 win against Zed.
That was followed by a 1-0 victory over Smouha, while their next match ended in a 1-1 draw against Al Mokawloon Al Arab.
Al Ahly then returned to winning ways against Abu Qir Fertilizers, securing a 2-0 victory before the current suspension of league action.
The coaching staff will now use the break to manage the squad’s workload, continue the preparation of injured players and maintain the fitness of the rest of the team ahead of the return to competitive football.
