Ajax have made an approach for Osasuna and Cameroon defender Enzo Boyomo, with the Dutch club seeking a loan for the 24-year-old before the transfer window closes. Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vazquez has confirmed the interest but indicated that the Liga club is not currently minded to accept that solution.
Ajax, four-time winners of the UEFA Champions League, are among the clubs to have shown an interest in Boyomo. The centre-back has won nine international caps for Cameroon and is regarded by Osasuna as a player whose value extends beyond any immediate transfer fee.
The situation was addressed by Vazquez before Osasuna’s Liga meeting with Getafe on Monday evening. Speaking at a news conference ahead of the match, he expressed frustration at the timing of the transfer discussions, with the new season already under way.
“I am preaching in the desert, but the transfer window is not over and the third matchday has already started… tell me,” Vazquez said, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
The Osasuna sporting director confirmed that Ajax were interested in signing Boyomo on loan, while also making clear that the Dutch club were not the only side to have made an approach.
“There have been other offers, and not just this one. Enzo has great value. With 30 hours left before the end of the transfer window, we would not even consider a substantial offer, because we believe that beyond the financial aspect, we must get the best out of Enzo. That is why clubs such as Ajax want him,” Vazquez said.
His comments suggest Osasuna’s priority is to retain Boyomo rather than agree to a late move, even if a sizeable offer were to arrive. The Spanish club believe the defender can make an important contribution to the team and that his value should not be assessed solely in financial terms.
“I hope he stays, so that we can build the best team possible,” Vazquez added.
Boyomo’s future must be resolved quickly if Ajax are to complete a possible deal. The Amsterdam club have until Wednesday evening to finalise any transfer, when the winter transfer window in the Netherlands will close.
For Osasuna, the immediate focus remains their Liga fixture against Getafe, but Vazquez’s remarks have placed Boyomo’s availability at the centre of attention. His confirmation of Ajax’s interest provides the clearest indication yet that the Cameroon international is attracting late interest from abroad, while his comments also underline the club’s reluctance to part with him on loan.
