The substitutions, however, did not produce the breakthrough the visitors needed.

For Senegal, the draw represents a disappointing start to Vieira’s tenure.

Sudan took advantage of Senegal’s dropped points by beating Ethiopia 1-0 in their opening match.
Mohamed Eisa scored from the penalty spot in the 86th minute to give Sudan victory and put them at the top of Group J with three points.
Senegal and Mozambique both have one point following their meeting in Maputo, while Ethiopia are yet to register a point.
Senegal will now turn their attention to their second Group J fixture, when they host Ethiopia.
That match will give Vieira and his players an opportunity to respond after failing to win their opening qualifier.
Mozambique, meanwhile, will face Sudan in their next fixture.
The Mambas will go into that match with confidence after holding one of the leading sides in the group to a draw on home soil.
With the qualifying campaign only beginning, Senegal still have plenty of football ahead of them, but their opening draw means they will be looking for an improved result in their next match as the race for qualification develops.
