Abubeker Nuri: Ethiopia Bunna Linked With Move for Insurance Corp Goalkeeper

Ethiopian goalkeeper Abubeker Nuri is being linked with a move from Insurance Corp. to domestic rivals Ethiopia Bunna in a deal that would see one of the Premier League’s title-winning keepers change clubs within Addis Ababa’s top flight.

Nuri, 27, is under contract with Insurance Corp. until 30 June 2026, meaning Ethiopia Bunna would need to negotiate a fee rather than wait for a free transfer. He is currently valued at around €75,000, a modest figure that could encourage Ethiopia Bunna to test Insurance Corp.’s resolve before he enters the final year of his deal.

The Illubabor-born goalkeeper has established himself as a key figure at Insurance Corp. since arriving from Bahirdar Ketema on 1 July 2022. Standing at 1.93m and preferring his right foot, he has been part of a side that climbed to the top of the domestic game, winning the Ethiopian championship in the 2024–25 season with Ethiopian Insurance Corporation SA.

Ethiopia Bunna’s interest comes with Nuri at a mature stage of his career, combining peak athletic years with top-flight experience in the Premier League. His status as Ethiopian champion adds further weight to the suggestion that he is being targeted to strengthen a squad with ambitions at the top end of the table.

For now, Nuri remains Insurance Corp.’s number one and a title-winning mainstay, protected by a contract that gives his current club a strong position in any negotiations over his future.
