Arsenal end 13-game wait for set-piece goal in Everton clash

Arsenal ended a run of 13 consecutive matches without scoring from a set-piece, excluding penalties, when they took an early lead against Everton in the eighth round of the Premier League.

The breakthrough came in the seventh minute at Emirates Stadium. Martin Ødegaard delivered a corner which created confusion inside the Everton penalty area, allowing Ezri Konsa to score and put the home side 1-0 ahead.

The goal brought an end to Arsenal’s longest such drought since May of last season. According to data from Opta, they had failed to score from a set-piece in 13 successive matches across all competitions, with penalties not included in the statistics.

OptaJoe posted: “Arsenal scored their first set-piece goal in all competitions (ex. penalties) since May of last season against Crystal Palace, ending a run of 13 games without one.”

The goal was also highlighted in footage shared by beIN SPORTS on 24 October 2026.

Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to take advantage of Manchester City’s setback against Aston Villa, who secured a 2-1 victory, as Arsenal attempt to strengthen their position in the Premier League title race.
