Inter are preparing to reward Carlos Augusto with a new and improved contract following his impressive opening to the 2026-27 season, according to reports from several Italian outlets.
The Brazilian defender scored the decisive goal as Inter, reduced to 10 men, secured a much-needed 1-0 win against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Carlos Augusto has made seven appearances across Serie A and the Champions League this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists. Reports have described him as having six goal involvements across his last seven matches for the Nerazzurri.
The 27-year-old’s current agreement runs until the summer of 2028. However, La Gazzetta dello Sport and other Italian publications say Inter are ready to extend his contract by a further three years, taking it through to the summer of 2031.
La Gazzetta dello Sport expects the agreement to be completed by the end of the month. The newspaper also reports that Carlos Augusto could sign the new deal within a “maximum” of 15 days.
From rotation option to key player
Carlos Augusto joined Inter from Monza in 2023 and has mainly operated as a squad player during his time at the club.
He has rotated with Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco, featuring both on the left side of Inter’s back three and as a left wing-back.
That role could now change after his strong start to the campaign. La Gazzetta dello Sport believes it will become increasingly difficult for Inter to continue treating the Brazilian solely as a rotation option.
The defender’s attacking contribution has been central to his early-season impact, with eight goals and assists recorded from his seven appearances. His latest intervention came in Europe, where his goal against Shakhtar Donetsk secured victory despite Inter playing with 10 men.
Inter’s proposed new contract would underline the significance of Carlos Augusto’s performances and extend his commitment to the club beyond his existing 2028 deal.
