Sabah Baku are expecting a club-record attendance of 55,000 when they host Borussia Dortmund in the third round of the Champions League group stage on 20 October.
The match at the Baku Olympic Stadium is scheduled to begin at 16:45 UTC, with the projected crowd set to surpass the Azerbaijani club’s previous best attendance.
Sabah Baku were founded only nine years ago and typically attract a few thousand supporters for their domestic league fixtures. Their European home matches are played at the Baku Olympic Stadium, which can hold 68,000 spectators and staged four matches during Euro 2021.
The club’s growing support has been evident during this Champions League campaign. Last week, Sabah Baku recorded the first Champions League victory in their history by beating Slavia Prague 2-0, with approximately 30,000 fans attending.
The fixture against Borussia Dortmund is expected to draw almost twice as many supporters. Sabah Baku have officially announced that ticket sales have exceeded expectations, with the attendance forecast to reach 55,000.
Sabah Baku will also welcome Barcelona to the Baku Olympic Stadium for their next Champions League home match on November 25.
