Marmoush says Tottenham’s first Premier League win can be ‘just the beginning’

Omar Marmoush believes Tottenham Hotspur’s first Premier League victory of the season can be the starting point for a sustained improvement, insisting the club should already have more points than they do.

Tottenham ended a six-match wait for a league win on Monday, beating Coventry City 3-1 as Marmoush scored his first goal since joining the club. James Maddison and Ben Davies were also on the scoresheet for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

All three of Tottenham’s goals came from outside the penalty area. They are the first team to score three long-range goals in a Premier League match since Fulham did so against Leicester City in May 2023. Tottenham had previously achieved the feat against Leicester City in September 2022.

The result was only Tottenham’s sixth home Premier League win in their past 37 matches, a run that also includes 10 draws and 21 defeats. It was their fourth victory in the competition in 2026, from 27 matches, alongside 10 draws and 13 losses.

However, Marmoush believes Monday’s performance can help Tottenham put a difficult spell behind them and begin producing the results he feels their displays have deserved.

“We are so, so happy. We have had good performances in that last week but haven’t had the end result of a win,” Marmoush told BBC Sport.

“We’re very happy to win our first game today, and I’m also happy to score my first goal for Tottenham. We will build on this.

“In every game, we learn. As you said, we’ve played amazing in the first few weeks, but the result just wasn’t there. It is just the beginning.”

The forward has now scored 11 Premier League goals, all of them at home. Ten came for Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, while Monday’s goal was for Tottenham at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That is the highest total in Premier League history by a player yet to score away from home.

Marmoush’s goal restored Tottenham’s lead after Coventry City’s Jack Rudoni had made it 1-1, and it also helped relieve pressure on De Zerbi. The forward said he had enjoyed working with the Italian since his arrival.

“I feel amazing. With the coach, he helps us all and teaches us small details. He also helps us on a personal basis,” Marmoush said.

“I love the intensity and passion that he brings, we believe in the system that we play. On the pitch, we are like a big family, and we will fight for each other until the end.”

Tottenham’s victory lifted them to 16th in the table. They travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday before hosting Crystal Palace a week later.
