Milan dropped points against Sassuolo and suffered a further setback when Matteo Gabbia was forced off with an injury.
Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim expressed his disappointment at the defender’s absence, describing Gabbia as a “fundamentally important player” for the club.
Milan will return to Serie A action in the next round with a home match against Atalanta.
