Morocco arrange Madagascar clash ahead of 2026 world cup

Morocco national football team have arranged another international friendly as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Atlas Lions are continuing to shape their schedule ahead of the global tournament and are set to face Madagascar national football team in a friendly match next June.

Confirmation of the agreement came from the Malagasy Football Federation, which announced through its social media channels that the two nations had reached an understanding to stage the fixture in Rabat.

According to the announcement, the match will take place at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, although the exact date for the encounter has yet to be officially confirmed.

The federation stated that additional details surrounding the timing of the game would be announced later.

The fixture forms part of Morocco’s broader preparations for the 2026 World Cup, where the North African side will compete in Group C alongside Brazil national football team, Haiti national football team and Scotland national football team.

Morocco are expected to use the upcoming friendlies to assess tactical options, build squad chemistry and ensure the players are fully prepared for another demanding World Cup campaign.

The Atlas Lions head into the tournament carrying heightened expectations following their historic performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where they became the first African and Arab nation to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Morocco eventually finished fourth in that tournament, a result that significantly elevated the team’s international standing and increased hopes of another strong showing on the world stage.

The upcoming meeting with Madagascar adds to a growing list of planned preparations for the national side. Morocco had already agreed to face Norway national football team in another friendly encounter before the World Cup.

At the same time, plans for a separate friendly match against El Salvador national football team were cancelled, according to the report.

The decision to continue arranging international friendlies reflects Morocco’s intention to maintain competitive momentum ahead of the tournament in North America.

With several months remaining before the World Cup begins, the coaching staff are likely to view the matches as valuable opportunities to test combinations and evaluate player performances against different styles of opposition.

The choice of Rabat as the venue is also expected to provide Morocco with strong home support as the team continue their preparations in familiar surroundings.

For Madagascar, the match represents an opportunity to face one of Africa’s leading national sides, while Morocco will aim to continue refining a squad capable of competing with some of the strongest teams in world football.

The Atlas Lions now continue their countdown to the 2026 World Cup with hopes of building on the remarkable success achieved in Qatar and delivering another memorable campaign on football’s biggest stage.
