Kylian Mbappe could leave Real Madrid in the summer of 2027 if the team does not develop in the way he expects, according to RMC sports journalist Daniel Riolo.
Speaking to Cadena SER, Riolo stressed that the possibility was based on his personal assessment rather than any concrete information. His comments have nevertheless attracted considerable attention in the French sports media.
Riolo linked Mbappe’s reported frustration to events dating back to last season, when the forward first suffered a knee injury. Real Madrid’s medical team initially failed to diagnose the problem correctly, after which Mbappe consulted specialists outside the club about the injury.
The journalist also questioned Mbappe’s recent public conduct and comments, saying: “I completely don’t understand it.” He added that the forward appeared to be trying to communicate that “he doesn’t care about anything”.
Asked how concerned Real Madrid supporters should be, Riolo said he was unable to understand Mbappe’s behaviour over the past month, including a series of interviews about the Ballon d’Or.
“I completely don’t understand Mbappe’s public behavior over the past month,” he said. “He gave so many interviews about the Ballon d’OrI don’t understand that approach. His actions with the French national team and going to nightclubs with his girlfriend, I also don’t understand. I absolutely don’t understand it.
“This is problematic; he seems to want to send the message: ‘I don’t care about anything.’ He doesn’t care what the outside world, club members, or the club itself say. He seems to live in his own world and wants to leave after the season.”
Riolo said he had no direct evidence that Mbappe wanted to depart, describing the claim as “more my feeling than concrete news”.
He suggested the forward may be unhappy with developments since joining Real Madrid, particularly after what he described as Mourinho’s arrival. In Riolo’s view, the team remains similar to last season, with the same problems despite having a different coach.
Riolo also criticised Mbappe for going to a nightclub after leaving the French national team and later appearing in public cycling while recovering from injury.
“His behavior is not normal,” he said. “Going to a nightclub after leaving the French national team and then appearing in public cyclingthat’s not normal. It sends a negative signal to Real Madrid fans.”
Asked whether Mbappe could leave next summer, Riolo replied: “I think it’s possible. If the team isn’t what he wants, I think he might leave. I don’t think he’s happy with how things have gone at Real Madrid this season.”
He added that Mbappe may also feel Real Madrid have not done enough to support his Ballon d’Or ambitions.
“It’s likely he’s dissatisfied with Real Madrid’s approach,” said Riolo. “He originally thought the club’s tradition was to help its players win the Ballon d’Or, but they haven’t done that this time. I feel that in the past, Real Madrid supported its Ballon d’Or candidates more actively. But this year, I don’t get that sense.”
