Erling Haaland says Manchester City must remain positive, united and keep smiling as they prepare to face Liverpool at Anfield.
Haaland made the comments in an official Manchester City interview on Oct. 8 after returning to the club for training, with the Premier League meeting against Liverpool among the topics discussed.
The Norway striker expects the travelling supporters to enjoy the occasion but emphasised the importance of togetherness before the match.
“I think the Manchester City fans travelling to Anfield will have a great time, and we have to stick together, support each other, and stay positive,” said Haaland. “Whatever happens in life, we have to keep smiling.”
He added: “We need to stay positive, look forward, try to win the game, enjoy the process of playing, and strive for victory. We must be united and show love to each other. So stick together, enjoy the journey, and keep smiling.”
Haaland also spoke about his personal connection with England and Manchester City. His parents lived in the country for 10 years, while his father trained daily at Carrington.
“I care a lot about this placeor rather, England as a whole,” he said. “My mother and father lived here for ten yearsin Nottingham and Leedsbut my father trained every day at Carrington.”
The forward spent the first four years of his life in England and said his family’s ties to the country have made it particularly important to him.
“I spent my first four years here,” Haaland said. “My younger brother is nine and my younger sister is six, so this is a special place for us.”
He also said his affection for Manchester City extends beyond his role as a player, describing himself as a supporter who understands the feelings of the club’s fans.
“I must say, I care deeply about Manchester City and the fans because I am a fan myselfI can empathise with them,” he said.
Haaland has experienced all three possible results against Liverpool during his career and believes the fixture remains distinctive regardless of the wider circumstances.
“Games against Liverpool are always special,” he said. “I’ve won, drawn, and lost there. Every Premier League game is different, and every match against Liverpool is special.”
