Bachir Belloumi’s market value has risen from €6.5m to €18m after an impressive start to the season with Hull City and a productive international break with Algeria.
The 24-year-old winger’s latest valuation, according to Transfermarkt estimates reported by DZ Foot, represents an increase of €11.5m in just a few weeks.
Belloumi had already attracted attention before joining up with the Fennecs. His performances for Hull City in the Premier League established him as one of the early-season revelations, and his displays for Algeria further strengthened the impression that he is moving to another level.
The son of Algeria legend Lakhdar Belloumi made a particularly strong impact for the Tigers with a double in a 2-2 draw against Chelsea. He then set up a goal in Hull City’s 2-1 victory over Newcastle.
Those performances were followed by his first goals for Algeria. Belloumi started under Brahim Hemdani against Zambia and Burundi, opening his international account against the Hirondelles in a 2-2 draw.
He struck again in Algeria’s next match, a 2-1 friendly win against Niger. This time, Belloumi came off the bench before scoring with an excellent direct free-kick.
The winger’s progress has therefore been evident at both club and international level. Once regarded mainly as a promising prospect, Belloumi is beginning to establish himself in senior football and has used the latest international break to reinforce that development.
His ability to operate in different roles, his quality on the left foot and his skill in the final third have also placed him among the leading candidates to eventually succeed Riyad Mahrez on the right side of Algeria’s attack.
Belloumi faces competition for that role from Anis Hadj Moussa, another highly regarded left-footed winger. Their rivalry could become a significant feature of the Fennecs’ future.
The challenge now is to maintain that level over a longer period. However, his performances in the Premier League, two goals in his first international breakthrough and the sharp rise in his valuation underline how significantly Belloumi’s standing has changed since the start of the season.
