Argentina beat Burkina Faso 7-0 in an international friendly in Buenos Aires on Sunday, but Lionel Scaloni used his post-match comments to recognise the visitors’ efforts after a severely disrupted build-up.
The Burkina Faso squad arrived only a few hours before kick-off and had to prepare for the match in particularly difficult circumstances.
Argentina manager Scaloni thanked the Stallions for making the journey and taking part in the game.
“I would like to thank Burkina Faso and those who came for the effort they made. They honour football,” Scaloni said.
“We are grateful for the effort they made to be able to come. They could have stayed at home and the match would have been called off. What they did is truly admirable.”
The result gave Argentina a decisive victory, while Scaloni said his team had achieved its objective and also highlighted the contribution of its younger players.
“Overall, we fulfilled the objective. All the young players bring freshness; they want to be here.”
