Alejandro Balde’s position at Barcelona is becoming increasingly uncertain, with the left-back now a secondary option for manager Hansi Flick and the club considering his departure in the next transfer window.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the 22-year-old has endured a difficult start to the season, making only one appearance and playing 12 minutes. His sole involvement came against Racing in La Liga at Camp Nou.
Balde has not featured in any of Barcelona’s six La Liga matches since that game. He was also left out of the team that faced Feyenoord in the Champions League, while he was not included in the squad for the opening fixture against Elche.
The defender’s fall down the pecking order reflects Flick’s current preference for Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo ahead of him at left-back. Balde has therefore found himself struggling for opportunities despite having made 169 appearances for Barcelona.
Balde remains committed to Barcelona
Despite his limited playing time, Balde is not currently considering leaving the club. His contract runs until June 2028 and he remains determined to continue his career at Barcelona.
The player believes he can regain his place in the side and earn more chances under Flick. For that reason, he does not want to discuss a move away at this stage.
Barcelona’s board, however, remains hopeful that Balde’s position can change before the winter transfer window opens in January. The club recognises that persuading him to leave would not be straightforward, given his desire to remain and fight for his place.
As the transfer window approaches, Barcelona will need to reassess Balde’s situation and its options at left-back. That review is likely to become more pressing if Flick continues to leave him outside his first-choice plans.
