Spain moved into a commanding position against the Czech Republic after Lamine Yamal and Rodri scored in the opening 35 minutes of their UEFA Nations League meeting in Oviedo.
Yamal put Spain ahead in the sixth minute at the Carlos Tartiere, finding the net with an outstanding effort to give La Roja an early lead in the third round of Group C in League A.
The Barcelona forward’s latest goal continued a remarkable pattern in the competition. Yamal had also opened the scoring in Spain’s first two matches, finding the net in the 3-2 victory over England and the 4-1 win against Croatia.
The Czech Republic arrived in Oviedo seeking their first points of the tournament, but Spain doubled their advantage in the 35th minute. Dani Olmo carried the ball into the penalty area before it reached Rodri, who finished from inside the box to make it 2-0.
The goal gave Spain a comfortable lead in the first half and capped a dominant start for the hosts.
Spain began the match at the top of the group with six points from their victories against England and Croatia. The Czech Republic were bottom without a point, having lost 2-1 to Croatia before a 2-0 defeat by England.
The result also continued Spain’s unbeaten record against the Czech Republic. The teams had met seven times before this match, with Spain winning five and drawing two.
Spain will travel to Split to face Croatia on Tuesday in the fourth round of Group C matches.
