Olympique Lyon defender Moussa Niakhate has returned to his club after withdrawing from Senegal’s squad because of an injury sustained during the international break.
The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed on Thursday evening that the 30-year-old had been released from Patrick Vieira’s squad and sent back to the Ligue 1 club.
The precise nature of Niakhate’s injury has not been revealed. However, he underwent an MRI scan in Marseille on Monday before Senegal decided he should return to Lyon for further examination and treatment.
His withdrawal means Niakhate will miss Senegal’s forthcoming international fixture against Comoros on October 4.
Niakhate has been a regular for Olympique Lyon this season, featuring across multiple competitions and rarely being rested. The centre-back has made eight appearances in total, including three in UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
