Al Ahly have denied making contact with Ludogorets defender Hossam Abdel-Maguid over a possible January move and said Zamalek left-back Ahmed Fatouh is not part of their plans.
An official source at the Egyptian club told WinWin that Al Ahly have not approached Abdel-Maguid or his agent about a transfer, despite reports linking the defender with a move to the Cairo-based club.
The source said the club are considering ways to strengthen their defence at the request of coach Hussein Ammouta, but stressed that discussions with agents about possible players should not be interpreted as formal negotiations.
“We are looking to strengthen the defense line based on the request of coach Hussein Ammouta, and there are agents who are constantly offering names and nominating players, but we have not contacted Hossam Abdel-Maguid or his agent directly to negotiate his signing.”
Abdel-Maguid and Fatouh are currently part of the Egypt national team camp. Egypt have played Angola and South Sudan in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and are preparing to face South Africa in a friendly match on Sunday.
According to the Al Ahly source, an agent had contacted Abdel-Maguid to ask about his position on a possible move to the club. However, the source said this was not an approach from Al Ahly’s management and did not represent the start of negotiations.
The club also stressed that its transfer plans can change depending on the team’s requirements, the players available and whether potential deals can be completed.
“Hossam Abdel-Maguid is a very distinguished player and without a doubt any club would wish to have him in its ranks, but admiring his potential is one thing and entering into negotiations to sign him is another, and so far there has been no direct contact with him from Al-Ahly.”
The source said Al Ahly’s transfer discussions remain subject to change and that contact with Abdel-Maguid could take place in the future, but there is currently no such communication.
“There may be contact someday because negotiations and contracts are constantly changing, but we are talking about the current situation and now there is no contact with the player or his agent regarding his transfer to Al-Ahly.”
On Fatouh, the club’s position was more definitive. The source said Al Ahly have no involvement in discussions over the Zamalek defender’s future and that he is not being considered by the club’s football management.
“Al-Ahly is not involved in anything concerning Ahmed Fatouh, and he is not in our plans in any way, and we have no connection to what is being said about his future.”
The clarification separates the two cases, with Al Ahly denying any current negotiations with Abdel-Maguid while also ruling out Fatouh as a target at present.
The club’s defensive recruitment remains linked to its assessment of the squad and the requirements identified by Ammouta, while the source stressed that the current situation does not amount to a final decision regarding future transfer activity.
