“Three players in one” – Enrique praises Hakimi despite injury

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has described Achraf Hakimi as an “exceptional” player whose influence on the pitch is comparable to “having 3 players”, while confirming the defender will miss a crucial Champions League fixture due to injury.

Hakimi sustained an injury in the closing stages of PSG’s dramatic 5-4 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their semi-final tie last Tuesday. The French club has since announced that the Moroccan international will undergo a rehabilitation programme lasting several weeks, ruling him out of the return leg at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Key absence ahead of decisive tie

The defender’s unavailability represents a significant setback for PSG as they prepare for the second leg of one of Europe’s most high-profile fixtures. Hakimi has been a central figure in the team’s tactical structure, contributing both defensively and offensively from the right flank.

Despite the injury, Enrique struck an optimistic tone when addressing the media ahead of his side’s domestic league encounter with Lorient.

“What can I say about Hakimi? He is an indispensable element under any coach, an exceptional Moroccan machine who consistently delivers a high level of performance.”

“Equivalent to having three players”

The Spanish coach emphasised the scale of Hakimi’s impact, highlighting his versatility and work rate.

“His presence on the field is equivalent to having 3 players. But unfortunately, we will miss him in the second leg in Munich. Nevertheless, we are confident and happy to have very high-level alternatives.”

Hakimi’s absence will require tactical adjustments, particularly against a Bayern Munich side known for exploiting wide areas and maintaining high intensity.

Squad depth offers reassurance

Enrique pointed to PSG’s ability to cope with injuries as a key strength, citing previous examples where players have successfully adapted to unfamiliar roles.

“We have repeatedly proven our ability to overcome the injury crisis. Warren Zaire Emery was able to play as a right-back, and Lucas Hernandez succeeded in filling the void when Nuno Mendes was absent.”

These adjustments underline the squad’s flexibility, which Enrique believes will be crucial in navigating the remainder of the season.

Focus remains on silverware

Despite the setback, PSG’s ambitions remain unchanged. The club continues to compete on multiple fronts, with domestic and European titles still within reach.

Enrique reiterated the importance of collective effort in achieving success.

“Titles are won with team spirit. Everyone knows Warren’s value, and I’m proud to have this type of player. Our goal is clear: to win the two remaining titles this season.”

Balancing optimism with reality

While Hakimi’s absence removes a key component from PSG’s lineup, the manager’s comments suggest confidence in the squad’s depth and resilience.

The upcoming second leg in Munich will test that belief, as PSG seek to maintain their advantage without one of their most influential players.
