Egyptian FA backs Infantino bid as global support strengthens

The Egyptian Football Association has formally announced its support for Gianni Infantino as he prepares to seek a new term at the head of world football’s governing body.

The declaration places Egypt among a growing number of national federations aligning behind the current FIFA president ahead of the next election cycle, which is expected to cover the period from 2027 to 2031.

Official endorsement from Cairo

In a statement issued under the leadership of Hani Abu Rida, the Egyptian FA confirmed its position unequivocally, expressing confidence in Infantino’s leadership and strategic direction.

The statement said the federation “announces its absolute support for the re-nomination of Gianni Infantino for the position of FIFA President for a new electoral term,” highlighting what it described as a firm belief in his vision for the sport.

It further added that officials in Cairo view Infantino as capable of continuing to guide football’s global development.

The federation said it has confidence in “Infantino’s insightful vision and his exceptional ability to continue leading the development of football globally, and pushing it towards broader and unprecedented horizons.”

Growing international backing

Infantino, who was previously re-elected unopposed, has signalled his intention to remain in office beyond his current mandate. His anticipated candidacy has already received backing from multiple confederations, including those in Africa, Asia and South America.

This expanding support base suggests a broad international consensus around his leadership, even before the formal election process begins.

Formal communication with FIFA

As part of its endorsement, the Egyptian FA confirmed that Abu Rida had sent an official letter to FIFA’s secretary general, outlining Egypt’s position and commending Infantino’s tenure.

The correspondence praised the FIFA president’s efforts in supporting national associations, particularly in terms of technical and logistical assistance.

It also underlined the perceived impact of development programmes introduced during his presidency, which the Egyptian FA believes have contributed to strengthening governance frameworks within football.

Focus on governance and development

According to the federation, these initiatives have played a role in promoting integrity, enhancing organisational structures and improving transparency across international football operations.

Such measures were cited as key reasons behind Egypt’s decision to endorse Infantino’s continued leadership, with the FA indicating that it views continuity as beneficial for ongoing reform and growth.

Strategic positioning ahead of elections

The announcement from Cairo reflects not only support for an individual candidate but also a strategic positioning within global football politics. By aligning early with Infantino, the Egyptian FA signals its intent to remain closely connected to FIFA’s central decision-making processes.

Looking ahead

With endorsements continuing to emerge from across different regions, attention will now turn to how the election landscape develops in the coming months.

For now, Egypt’s backing adds further weight to Infantino’s anticipated campaign, reinforcing his standing as the leading figure in the race to guide FIFA into its next administrative cycle.
