Inter defender Yann Bisseck says he is proud to have extended his contract with the club and has set his sights on winning the Champions League.
Speaking at a sports festival at the Santa Chiara auditorium on October 1, the German centre-back discussed his decision to renew, his arrival at Internazionale and the club’s ambitions for the season, according to Di Marzio.
Bisseck said he had quickly developed a strong connection with the club and the city of Milan.
“It’s easy to feel at home here,” he said. “Everyone welcomed me with open arms, including the management, my team-mates and the city. In Milan, you can live well, eat well and enjoy life off the field.
“For me, there was no second thought – I want to renew my contract. The club has shown me trust, and I’m proud of that. There’s still a lot of work to do now.”
The defender joined Internazionale after being convinced by the club’s interest, although he admitted the move initially felt difficult to believe.
“It was a bit surreal at the time,” Bisseck said. “But when Internazionale calls you, you go. I even asked Internazionale’s management to speak with me because I couldn’t believe it was real.
“After they spoke with me, they immediately showed me a lot of trust, so it was easy for me to decide to come here.”
Bisseck also spoke about Inter’s hopes in domestic and European competition, describing his side as the strongest in Italy but stressing that the team must demonstrate that on the pitch.
“We are the strongest team in Italy, but it’s always easy to say,” he said. “We have to prove ourselves as the strongest on the field.
“I can say that we want to win the Champions League. We’ve been close to the title twice – well, once, come on,” he added with a laugh. “We know we’re strong and we know we can go all the way in this competition. I hope we get another chance.”
Inter have previously come close to winning the Champions League, and Bisseck believes the team has the quality to make another deep run in the competition.
He also reflected on a difficult spell during his time in Portugal, when a series of injuries left him questioning his situation.
“I had a time in Portugal when I was often injured, and I thought, ‘This is bad,’” Bisseck said. “God gave me a chance, and my family and friends were always by my side, helping me through it.”
