Thomas Tuchel praised Alexander-Arnold after England recovered from their opening defeat by beating Czech Republic 2-0 in the second round of the Nations League on Tuesday.
England had begun their European campaign with a 3-2 defeat by Spain at Wembley on Saturday, but secured a deserved victory against Czech Republic.
“We played with a high level of professionalism and raised our performance in the second half,” Tuchel said, as reported by the BBC.
“We maintained our enthusiasm and pressure, were extremely professional and never stopped putting in the effort. So the victory was deserved.”
Czech Republic were reduced to 10 men in the 25th minute, a development Tuchel said was unfortunate for both teams and the supporters.
“It is unfortunate when the opposition receives an early red card. It is not in the interests of the team or the fans,” he added.
“It is an awkward situation, but we continued to try, we got the win and that is the important thing.”
Alexander-Arnold played a key role in England’s opening goal, providing the pass from which Anthony Gordon found the net. Tuchel said the assist was difficult to convert into a goal.
“It is not easy to turn that into a goal. It was extremely difficult for him,” said Tuchel. “It was a great pass and a great goal.”
The England manager also praised both of his full-backs, Alexander-Arnold and Lewis Hall, after the pair featured in the victory.
“They were both good,” Tuchel said. “Trent’s position suited him better in the second half than in the first. Lewis gave an excellent performance on the other side.
“Well done to everyone. They deserve all the credit because they earned it. Now it is important to relax and enjoy the evening, recover properly and then prepare for the match against Croatia.”
England will travel to face Croatia in their third-round fixture on 3 October, before hosting Czech Republic in the fourth round on 6 October.
Tuchel’s positive assessment of Alexander-Arnold comes after recent reports of a disagreement between the pair. The speculation intensified after the Real Madrid full-back was left out of the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
