Milan mayor Beppe Sala has called on Inter and Milan to publish the design for their proposed new stadium “very soon”, with the clubs expected to unveil a rendering within the next month.
The two Serie A sides are planning to build a new ground in Milan ahead of Euro 2032. In November last year, they acquired the San Siro area, including the existing Stadio Meazza, as part of their plans.
The design is being developed by Foster+Partners and Manica Studios, which are also responsible for London’s new Wembley Stadium. According to Gazzetta, the architectural firms are expected to complete the rendering within a month.
“I hope the clubs will unveil the new stadium rendering very soon and confirm that the venue will be ready for the 2032 European Championship,” Sala said on Monday, via Gazzetta.
The proposed schedule would see construction begin beside the current Stadio Meazza at the end of the season. The new stadium would then be completed by 2031, allowing Milan to meet UEFA’s requirements and serve as one of the host venues for Euro 2032.
The plans remain dependent on the project progressing within that timetable. The existing Stadio Meazza forms part of the area acquired by the clubs, while the new venue would be built outside the current stadium.
Milan’s plans are behind those for Roma’s new stadium. The Giallorossi received approval to start construction on Monday and are aiming to complete their ground by 2029.
The project means both Milan clubs are working towards a shared long-term replacement for the Stadio Meazza, with the initial design now expected to provide a clearer indication of how the proposed venue will look.
