AFCON 2027 : Morocco begin AFCON preparations under Ouahbi

Morocco have begun preparations for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, with head coach Mohamed Ouahbi overseeing the national team’s first training session at the Mohammed VI Football Complex on Monday.

The Atlas Lions are preparing for a busy international window that includes AFCON qualifiers against Gabon and Lesotho, followed by a friendly against Ghana.

Ouahbi used Monday’s session to begin implementing his preparations as the players returned to national team duty and worked towards regaining their competitive rhythm.

All invited players took part in the opening session except Ismail Al-Sibari and Achraf Hakimi, who are expected to join the squad on Wednesday.

Morocco will continue training at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in the coming days as Ouahbi and his technical staff work to prepare the team for the first of their three fixtures.

The Atlas Lions will open their qualifying campaign against Gabon on Friday, September 25, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00.

They will then travel to South Africa for their second qualifier against Lesotho on Tuesday, September 29.

Morocco’s international programme will conclude with a friendly against Ghana on Sunday, October 4.

The Ghana fixture will provide Ouahbi with another opportunity to assess his squad after the two competitive qualifiers, while the immediate priority remains making a strong start against Gabon.

With Hakimi and Saibari expected to join later in the week, Morocco will continue building towards Friday’s opening assignment as Ouahbi begins his preparations for another AFCON qualifying campaign.
