Goalless stalemate leaves Real Sociedad and Celta short of victory

Real Sociedad and Celta were unable to find a breakthrough as they played out a 0-0 draw in the Spanish championship on 3 September, with Arsen Zakharyan remaining an unused substitute for the home side.

Real Sociedad created opportunities during the opening half but could not turn its promising moments into goals. Celta, from Vigo, defended with discipline and avoided the mistakes that might have allowed the hosts to take control of the game.

The pattern continued after the interval. Real Sociedad increased its efforts to produce a result for its supporters, but the San Sebastian side again failed to convert its chances. Despite its attacking intent, the home team could not break through a well-organised Celta defence.

Neither side was able to establish a decisive advantage before the final whistle. The scoreless draw ensured that both teams collected a point from the fixture, although neither could claim the victory it had been seeking.

Zakharyan, the Russian midfielder, watched the entire match from the substitutes’ bench and was not introduced during the game.

The result leaves Real Sociedad with four points in the 2026/27 Spanish championship. Celta have two points.
