Former Fiorentina forward Franck Ribery has spoken proudly about his time with the club after taking part in a friendly match featuring some of its former stars.
Ribery used the occasion to reflect on his spell in Florence, telling supporters: “I am proud that I wore this shirt.”
The Frenchman also highlighted the special relationship he continues to share with Fiorentina’s fans. His appearance gave supporters the chance to see one of the most recognisable players of the club’s recent past back on the pitch, while Ribery was able to revisit a period he clearly still values.
The match brought together former Fiorentina players for an evening centred on memories of the club and its most celebrated figures. Ribery said he continues to take pleasure in playing, underlining that his enjoyment of football remains undiminished.
One of the most notable moments came when Ribery was reunited on the field with Luca Toni. The pair formed a celebrated attacking partnership during their careers, and their appearance together provided another prominent feature of the event.
Ribery represented Fiorentina from 2019 to 2021. During that period, he made 50 appearances in Serie A, scoring five goals and supplying nine assists.
Those figures provide the statistical record of his time with the Viola, while his comments underlined the personal importance of the club and its supporters. Ribery’s message was not simply about his contribution in front of goal or the number of assists he delivered; it also reflected his pride in having worn the Fiorentina shirt.
His return for the friendly meeting allowed the former forward to share the occasion with other past Fiorentina stars and reconnect with the club’s fanbase. The reunion with Toni added a further link to the memories associated with his career, bringing two familiar names together once again.
Although the match was played as a friendly, Ribery’s participation carried particular significance because of his previous connection with Fiorentina. He remains associated with the club after his two-year spell in Florence, when he featured regularly in Serie A and contributed both goals and assists.
For supporters, the event offered an opportunity to see Ribery back in Fiorentina colours alongside other figures from the club’s past. For Ribery, it was a chance to express his appreciation for the experience and to make clear that he remains proud of the period in which he represented the Viola.
The reunion therefore combined several elements of his Fiorentina story: his continuing enjoyment of football, his bond with the fans, his partnership with Toni and his lasting pride in having worn the club’s shirt.
