Former Orlando Pirates administrator Senzo Mbatha has returned to the South African sports industry after spending several years working in Tanzania, taking up a new position with Tuks Sport.
Mbatha was announced on Thursday as Tuks Sport’s new Deputy Director in Sports Operations Management. The appointment marks his return to a senior role in South African sport after a series of positions across the African continent.
The 43-year-old previously worked as an administrative officer at Orlando Pirates between 2011 and 2013. During that period, he was involved in the club’s administration after taking over from Floyd Mbele.
Mbatha later returned to the Premier Soccer League (PSL), where he served as a project manager. Before joining Orlando Pirates, he had contributed to preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
His professional career has also included work outside South Africa. Mbatha had a brief stint with CAF in 2017 before moving to Tanzania, where he joined Simba SC as a football administrator. He spent two seasons with the club.
He also worked with Tanzanian giants Yanga SC, adding to an administrative career that has taken him through several major football organisations on the continent.
Mbatha’s latest appointment places him back in South African sport, this time in a role focused on sports operations management with Tuks Sport. His return follows a number of different assignments in football and sports administration since his time at Orlando Pirates.
The move gives Mbatha another opportunity to work in a senior operational position after experience involving club administration, league management, tournament preparation and continental football structures.
His career began to gain greater prominence through his involvement in preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He subsequently moved into club administration, first with Orlando Pirates and later with Simba SC and Yanga SC.
The announcement comes as attention continues to focus on developments involving South African football clubs. Related reports have included the continued exclusion of transfer-listed Thabo Cele at Kaizer Chiefs, while another update stated that Da Cruz had no intention of dropping Petersen.
Mbatha’s appointment was confirmed by Tuks Sport on Thursday, completing his move into the new Deputy Director position in Sports Operations Management.
