Manchester City-owned defender Juma Bah has moved to Augsburg on loan for the rest of the current season.
The 20-year-old has joined the German club in a deal that also includes an option for Augsburg to make the transfer permanent. The move was confirmed by the club’s press service.
Bah is under contract with Manchester City, who signed the defender last year. Since arriving at the Premier League club, he has spent time away on loan on two occasions.
The Sierra Leone-born defender’s previous temporary spells came in France, where he represented Nice and Lens. His move to Augsburg will now take him to the Bundesliga for the first time.
Augsburg began the new Bundesliga campaign with an emphatic victory, beating Schalke 3-0 at home. Bah joins the side after that confident opening result, with his loan scheduled to run until the end of the season.
The agreement gives Augsburg the option to secure the player permanently once the loan period has concluded. Until then, Bah will continue his development in Germany while remaining a Manchester City player.
For Bah, the move represents a third loan opportunity since his transfer to Manchester City last year. His earlier experience in France came with Nice and Lens, before the defender switched the French top flight for the Bundesliga.
Augsburg’s first match of the new season provided a strong start for the club. They claimed all three points against Schalke without conceding, scoring three times at their home stadium.
Bah’s arrival therefore comes as Augsburg begin their Bundesliga campaign with a 3-0 win already on the board. The club will have the option to decide on a permanent transfer after the conclusion of the current season, while Manchester City retain the player’s rights during the loan arrangement.
The 20-year-old’s immediate future is now in Germany, following his earlier spells with Nice and Lens. His career path since joining Manchester City has involved successive loan moves, and Augsburg will be his latest destination.
