Getafe goalkeeper David Soria has set a new La Liga record for consecutive appearances in the starting line-up.
Soria made his 193rd successive start when Getafe faced Osasuna in the third round of the competition, a match they lost 1-0. His latest appearance moved him beyond the previous record of 192 consecutive starts, held by Juan Larranaga.
Larranaga previously played as a midfielder for Real Sociedad, but Soria’s extraordinary run has now established a new benchmark for consecutive starts in La Liga.
The Getafe goalkeeper’s sequence began on 13 August 2021, when he started against Valencia. He has been named in the starting line-up for every league match since then.
The last time Soria was left among the substitutes in a league fixture came in the final round of the 2020-21 season. Since that point, he has remained Getafe’s first-choice starter in the competition, extending the run across successive campaigns and into the current season.
His record-breaking appearance came despite Getafe being beaten by Osasuna. The result did not prevent Soria from reaching a landmark that had previously belonged to Larranaga, whose total of 192 consecutive starts had stood as the league record before the latest round of fixtures.
Soria is also among Getafe’s leading appearance-makers. He currently ranks fourth for the number of matches played for the club, with 306 appearances.
The club’s record-holder remains Caballeros, who has represented Getafe in 335 matches. Soria is therefore 29 appearances behind the current leader in the club’s all-time rankings.
His latest start added another entry to an already notable record with Getafe, while also giving him sole possession of the La Liga mark for consecutive starts.
