Referees put through paces as Nile league enters final stage

The Egyptian Football Association has stepped up preparations for referees ahead of the decisive المرحلة of the Egyptian Premier League, with a comprehensive training programme aimed at improving both technical performance and physical fitness.

The session, held on Tuesday at the National Teams Center, was organised under the supervision of the association’s main referees committee, led by Oscar Ruiz. The initiative forms part of a broader strategy overseen by federation president Hani Abu Rida to enhance refereeing standards during a critical phase of the season.

Focus on Technical Precision

A total of eight field referees and eleven assistant referees participated in the training camp, which combined classroom instruction with on-field exercises. The programme placed particular emphasis on improving decision-making in complex match situations.

Referees were divided into smaller groups to work on simulated scenarios, including contested plays and handball incidents within the penalty area. These practical exercises were designed to replicate real match conditions, allowing officials to refine their judgement under pressure.

Additional focus was placed on movement and positioning, with sessions dedicated to mastering diagonal runs and maintaining optimal angles of view during play. Communication between referees and assistants was also a key component, with drills aimed at standardising signals and improving coordination during matches.

Leadership and Oversight

The training was led by Ruiz, with support from key figures within the referees committee, including vice-president Wajih Ahmed and director Azab Haggag. Members of the technical committee, including Fahim Omar and Mohamed Youssef, were also present to oversee the various aspects of the programme.

Their involvement ensured that both theoretical and practical elements were closely monitored, providing referees with detailed feedback throughout the sessions.

Physical Conditioning a Priority

In addition to technical drills, referees underwent intensive physical training tailored to the demands of high-tempo matches. Fitness sessions were designed to enhance endurance, speed and agility, ensuring officials are capable of keeping pace with play during decisive fixtures.

The programme also included analysis of previous refereeing decisions, conducted directly on the pitch. By revisiting real match scenarios, officials were able to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to avoid similar errors in future matches.

Preparing for final Matches

The Egyptian Premier League is entering a critical stage, with results expected to determine the outcome of the title race and other key positions in the standings. In this context, the role of referees becomes increasingly significant, requiring accuracy, consistency and composure.

The federation’s decision to invest in targeted training reflects the importance placed on maintaining high officiating standards during this period. By combining technical instruction, practical application and physical conditioning, the programme aims to equip referees with the tools needed to perform effectively under pressure.

As the league approaches its conclusion, the success of these preparations will be closely observed, with the expectation that improved officiating will contribute to the integrity and competitiveness of the competition.
