French and DR Congo forward Christopher Nkunku has joined Leipzig on loan from AC Milan in a €3m deal, returning to the Bundesliga club three years after leaving for Chelsea.
The 28-year-old centre-forward completed the move on 25 August 2026, with the loan scheduled to run until 30 June 2027. Nkunku is returning to Leipzig after spending the previous season with AC Milan, who signed him from Chelsea for €37m in August 2025.
His move back to Germany marks another change in club for a player who has represented three of Europe’s leading leagues in recent seasons. Nkunku left Leipzig for Chelsea in July 2023 in a €60m transfer, having established himself as a prominent attacking player during his first spell in Germany.
He originally joined Leipzig from Paris St-Germain in July 2019 for €19.5m. During his time at the club, Nkunku won two German Cups and was named Germany’s Footballer of the Year in 2022. He also finished as the Bundesliga’s leading scorer in the 2022-23 season with 16 goals.
Nkunku came through the Paris St-Germain academy before making his senior move to the French club. He won three French league titles, two French Cups, two French League Cups and three French Super Cups during his time with PSG.
His honours since leaving France include the Conference League and Fifa Club World Cup, both won with Chelsea in 2025. The trophies add to a career that has taken him from PSG’s youth system to major domestic success in France and Germany.
Nkunku’s return gives Leipzig a player familiar with the club and the Bundesliga, where he produced his most productive campaign before moving to England. He joins with a market value of €25m and will remain with Leipzig until the end of the loan agreement in June 2027.
The move was completed on a paid loan basis, with Nkunku leaving AC Milan for Leipzig on 25 August 2026.
