Leon Goretzka is in talks over a possible move to Aston Villa after leaving Bayern Munich as a free agent, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.
The 31-year-old Germany international is discussing a potential agreement with the Premier League club, with negotiations understood to be ongoing.
Goretzka became available without a transfer fee after departing Bayern Munich in the summer. That means Aston Villa could sign the midfielder for nothing, although his current market value is estimated at €12m by Transfermarkt.
Villa are the club currently linked most closely with Goretzka, but no agreement has been announced. The report of the negotiations was published by Moretto on his social media page.
Goretzka spent the previous season with Bayern Munich, making 48 appearances in all competitions. He scored five goals and provided five assists during that campaign.
His record shows he remained a regular contributor across the season, combining an attacking return of 10 goals and assists with experience at one of Europe’s leading clubs. Those figures are also the most recent statistics cited in the report linking him with a move to England.
Should the discussions lead to a deal, Goretzka would join Aston Villa as a free agent rather than through a conventional transfer. The €12m figure listed by Transfermarkt would therefore represent his estimated market value, not a fee Villa would necessarily have to pay Bayern Munich.
The midfielder’s possible arrival would give Aston Villa the opportunity to add an experienced player without a transfer payment. For now, however, the information available is limited to the reported negotiations between Goretzka and the Premier League club.
Goretzka’s departure from Bayern Munich has opened the way for the next stage of his career, and Aston Villa are currently exploring whether that will take place in the Premier League.
