Roma are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Jayden Oosterwolde from Fenerbahce on loan, with a potential obligation to buy for €20m at the end of the season.
The proposed agreement would initially see the 25-year-old join Roma temporarily before a permanent transfer is completed if certain conditions are met. Should those conditions be triggered, Oosterwolde would sign a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.
According to Voetbal International, talks are currently taking place over the versatile defender. The report says the transfer would include an option to buy worth €20m, which would become mandatory if the agreed criteria were fulfilled.
The obligation is likely to be linked to the number of appearances Oosterwolde makes for Roma. The Netherlands-born player is currently unavailable because of a muscular tear, meaning his fitness and playing time could be significant factors in determining whether the permanent transfer goes ahead.
Oosterwolde has experienced a difficult period with injuries. He missed a lengthy spell after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in October 2024, and his current muscle problem has further disrupted his season.
Primarily a central defender, he can also operate at left-back and play in a more advanced position on the same side. That versatility is understood to be central to Roma’s interest as they consider strengthening their defensive options.
The reports also refer to ongoing discussions between Roma and Feyenoord over the player, although the proposed move is described as involving Fenerbahce. Oosterwolde joined Fenerbahce from Parma in January 2023 in a deal worth €6m.
Before moving to Italy, Oosterwolde developed through the FC Twente academy. He spent a short period with Parma from January 2022, before leaving the club for Fenerbahce a year later.
Any move to Roma would therefore depend not only on the clubs reaching an agreement but also on Oosterwolde’s recovery from his latest injury. The structure of the reported deal means his appearances could determine whether the €20m purchase obligation is activated and whether he ultimately becomes a permanent Roma player.
