Barcelona are facing growing resistance from clubs in Spain as they attempt to complete further signings before the summer transfer window closes, with the club still determined to add a centre-forward to Hansi Flick’s squad.
According to Sport, Barcelona had initially planned to strengthen several areas after bringing in a number of new players, but the centre-forward position remained their main priority. Their preferred option, Julian Alvarez, appears unavailable after Atletico Madrid refused to consider offers for the Argentina international.
That decision has forced president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco to examine alternatives during the final days of the window. Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez have been linked with a move, while Barcelona have also looked at players based in La Liga.
Real Sociedad forward Oyarzabal and Villarreal striker Georges Mikauttadze are among the domestic options mentioned as possible targets.
Barcelona remain confident they can complete at least one more deal, although the club’s pursuit of players within Spain is being complicated by what appears to be an increasingly difficult relationship with several La Liga sides.
Jose Felix, the editor-in-chief of AS, said a number of clubs were paying particular attention to Barcelona’s transfer activity. Speaking on Gerard Romero’s channel, he said: “Many clubs have told me they will be watching Barcelona’s moves very closely. Many teams are waiting to see what happens this year,”
Felix believes Barcelona have lost goodwill among some Spanish clubs after their transfer dealings in recent seasons. He added: “Barcelona is losing goodwill with some clubs: last year it was Athletic Bilbao, this year it’s Atletico Madrid… Real Madrid has long been an outright rival.”
The journalist suggested that this pattern helps explain why Barcelona have encountered repeated difficulties when attempting to recruit players from other La Liga teams. He expects the club to face particularly close scrutiny as the transfer window reaches its conclusion.
Felix also predicted that Barcelona’s summer business could follow the familiar pattern associated with Laporta’s presidency, with important moves being completed at the last possible moment. However, he acknowledged the club’s ability to overcome those late complications, saying: “It happens every summer, but in the end, they always manage to register everyone.”
Barcelona’s remaining time is limited and the number of realistic options is narrowing. The club must now decide how to proceed with the deals Deco outlined during the Joan Gamper Trophy, while also ensuring any new arrivals can be registered.
Atletico Madrid’s refusal to negotiate over Julian Alvarez means Barcelona’s original plan has already been disrupted, and their search for a centre-forward is now focused on a wider group of candidates. Whether any of those alternatives can be secured before the deadline remains uncertain.
