Como have opened negotiations to sign Samuele Ricci, but AC Milan are standing firm on their insistence that the midfielder leaves on a permanent deal.
The Serie A club have reportedly reached a broad agreement with Ricci’s representatives, according to Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto via Calciomercato. However, talks between the clubs have yet to produce an agreement, with the structure of the proposed transfer the main obstacle.
Como initially suggested taking Ricci on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. AC Milan have rejected that proposal and are instead seeking a permanent sale for the 23-year-old, who joined them from Torino last summer for a fee of more than €20m.
Ricci is viewed by Como manager Cesc Fabregas as a strong tactical match for his side. The club are also seeking to strengthen their pool of Italian-qualified players, with squad-list requirements applying to both their Serie A campaign and their first appearance in the Champions League.
The midfielder made 34 appearances for AC Milan during a difficult first season at San Siro, scoring once. Despite that involvement, he is now among a group of players understood to be considered surplus to the requirements of Ruben Amorim, alongside Tomori and Fofana.
Ricci remains under contract with AC Milan until 2029. His reported salary is €2.5m a year after tax.
The club’s position reflects the significant investment made in the player less than a year ago. Milan paid more than €20m to bring him from Torino, and are unwilling to replace that permanent transfer with a temporary arrangement that would leave the final decision over his future until a later date.
Como’s interest has therefore created a clear divide between the two sides. While Fabregas’ team are keen to add Ricci to their squad, Milan want the financial certainty of an outright transfer rather than a loan that may or may not result in a sale.
Atalanta have also made contact over the midfielder, giving AC Milan another possible destination if discussions with Como fail to resolve the disagreement. Maurizio Sarri is said to be an admirer of Ricci, although no agreement has been reached with either interested club.
For now, Como remain engaged in talks, but Milan’s refusal to change the terms of their demand means a permanent transfer will be required if Ricci is to leave San Siro this summer. With Atalanta also monitoring the situation, Milan have a second option should Como be unable to meet their valuation and preferred deal structure.
