Wolfsburg sporting director Dieter Hecking has confirmed that Algeria international Mohamed Amine Amoura is no longer part of the German club’s plans and will not play for them again.
The decision leaves Amoura facing an uncertain future with the summer transfer window approaching its conclusion, despite the striker remaining under contract with Wolfsburg until 2029.
Amoura has not been included in Wolfsburg’s squad for either of their opening two matches of the new season. The club, who were relegated from Germany’s top division last season, have begun their campaign in the second tier with matches against Kaiserslautern and Hannover.
The Algerian forward’s absence from both squads had raised questions over his situation, but Hecking has now made the club’s position clear.
The Wolfsburg sporting director said Amoura was among four players who had been removed from the club’s plans for the 2026-27 season. Polish goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, Slovak defender Denis Vavro and German defender Moritz Jentz are the other players in the same situation.
Speaking in a statement reported by Transfermarkt, Hecking said: “According to the current situation, these players will not participate again with Wolfsburg.”
The statement represents a significant development in Amoura’s situation, with the club now openly indicating that it wants to find a solution for the striker away from the first-team squad.
However, Wolfsburg are also making it clear that they will not simply allow the players to leave for reduced fees.
Hecking insisted that the club intends to maintain its valuation during negotiations, despite the decision to exclude the players from its sporting plans.
“No. These players will not leave for cheap prices. We are a fair party in the negotiations, but we are very clear in our demands.”
That stance could complicate efforts to secure a move for Amoura before the transfer window closes.
The 2026 summer window has already seen the Algerian linked with several European clubs. Portuguese side Benfica have been mentioned as one possible destination, although there has yet to be a concrete agreement or confirmed offer for the forward.
With Wolfsburg prepared to sell but unwilling to reduce their demands, Amoura’s next destination remains unclear.
His situation has developed after a difficult period at the German club. Amoura’s performances declined during the second half of last season, while disciplinary issues also contributed to the decision by Wolfsburg’s management to remove him from their plans.
The club’s decision is particularly notable because Amoura has a long-term contract that runs until the summer of 2029. Despite that commitment, his exclusion means he is now effectively looking for another club rather than competing for a place in Wolfsburg’s team.
Amoura’s situation also comes shortly after he represented Algeria at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The forward’s tournament was cut short by injury. He played only once, featuring against Argentina before the injury ruled him out of Algeria’s remaining matches against Jordan, Austria and Switzerland.
The striker therefore enters the final stage of the transfer window with his international experience and long-term contract contrasting with his current lack of a place in Wolfsburg’s plans.
For now, the German club’s position is firm: Amoura will not return to the team under the current circumstances, and any potential departure will have to satisfy Wolfsburg’s financial demands.
The coming weeks will determine whether a European club can reach an agreement for the Algeria international or whether he remains at Wolfsburg despite being excluded from the first-team plans.
