Beninese coach Tchomogo makes winning start at French side Saran FC

Beninese coach Oumar Tchomogo has been appointed as the new head coach of Saran FC, marking a fresh chapter for both the club and the experienced tactician.

The 48-year-old takes charge of the French National 3 side with just five league matches remaining in the 2025–2026 season.

Saran currently sit sixth in the standings after 22 matches and have already secured their place in the division, allowing Tchomogo to focus on building momentum ahead of the next campaign.

His appointment, confirmed on Wednesday, brings an end to the interim spell overseen by Joël Sami.

The club will be hoping that Tchomogo’s experience and leadership can provide stability and direction as they close out the season.

Tchomogo made an immediate impact in his first match in charge, guiding Saran to a convincing 3-0 victory in the semi-final of the Coupe du Centre-Val de Loire.

The result not only secured a place in the final but also offered an early indication of the influence he could have on the squad.

The comprehensive nature of the win is likely to boost confidence within the team, particularly as they prepare for the final stretch of league fixtures.

With their safety already confirmed, Saran can approach their remaining matches with less pressure, providing an opportunity for the new coach to assess his players and implement his ideas.

Tchomogo’s appointment is another example of coaching talent from the continent making strides in European football.

His move to France reflects a growing trend of African coaches gaining opportunities abroad, where they can further develop their careers and influence.

Although his tenure this season will be brief, the early signs are encouraging.

A strong finish to the campaign, coupled with success in the regional cup competition, could lay a solid foundation for the future.

Saran’s decision to make a managerial change at this stage suggests a long-term vision, with Tchomogo expected to play a key role in shaping the team beyond the current season.

His ability to deliver results quickly, as demonstrated in his debut match, may prove crucial in earning the trust of both players and supporters.

With five league games still to play and a cup final on the horizon, attention will now turn to whether Tchomogo can maintain this positive start.

As the campaign draws to a close, all eyes will be on how the Beninese coach continues to adapt and build on this promising beginning in French football.
