AC Milan have set an asking price of €35m for Christopher Nkunku, with Roma, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig monitoring the France forward’s situation.
Nkunku’s position at the Italian club has become increasingly uncertain after he was left out of the squad for AC Milan’s friendly against Manchester United. The former Chelsea player was also excluded from training with the rest of the first-team group, in a move that suggests he is not part of the club’s plans for the current season.
Nkunku was left out alongside Youssouf Fofana, Fikayo Tomori and David Odogu. Their omissions from both the matchday group and team training have effectively confirmed that the players are not currently included in AC Milan’s sporting vision.
According to Sky Sport Italia, transfer expert Matteo Moretto and MilanNews, interest in Nkunku is coming from two clubs in Germany. RB Leipzig, where Nkunku previously made his name, and Borussia Dortmund are both understood to be following developments.
Roma are also expected to consider another move for the player. The Serie A club tried to sign Nkunku in January and are prepared to revisit the possibility of bringing him to the Italian capital.
The Frenchman will turn 29 in November and moved to AC Milan only one year ago from Chelsea. The transfer initially cost €37m, with a further €5m available in add-ons, as well as a percentage of any future sale fee.
Despite that recent investment, AC Milan appear willing to consider his departure. Sky Sport Italia report that the club’s current valuation is €35m, although a permanent transfer is not the only possible outcome.
A loan agreement with an option to buy at the end of the season could also be considered. That structure would allow a potential interested club to take Nkunku for the campaign before deciding whether to complete a permanent transfer.
For now, Roma, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are the clubs most closely linked with the forward. RB Leipzig’s interest carries particular significance because Nkunku previously played for the German side before joining Chelsea, while Roma have already demonstrated their willingness to pursue him.
His exclusion from AC Milan’s friendly against Manchester United and from team training has made his future one of the key transfer issues surrounding the club. With an asking price of €35m now reported, the next decision will be whether one of his interested clubs is prepared to meet that figure or seek a loan arrangement with a purchase option instead.
