Barcelona have officially announced the transfer of Spain forward Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain, bringing his spell at the Catalan club to an end and placing him among the most expensive departures in the club’s history.
Barcelona are expected to receive about €50m for the 26-year-old, a fee that would put Torres fifth in the club’s all-time list of highest-value sales, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Torres had been under contract at Barcelona until the summer of 2027, but the player expressed a desire to begin a new chapter elsewhere. That decision has allowed the club to recover most of the money it spent to sign him from Manchester City.
Barcelona paid €55m in guaranteed fees for Torres, with a further €10m available in add-ons. His departure therefore provides the club with a significant financial return as it continues its preparations for the new season and looks to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window.
The move represents a positive outcome for all parties: Torres gets the change of environment he wanted, while Barcelona receive a substantial fee for a player who has not completed the full length of his contract.
Barcelona’s most expensive departures
Neymar remains comfortably at the top of Barcelona’s sales list. Paris Saint-Germain activated the Brazilian forward’s release clause in the summer of 2017, paying €222m to take him to France. The transfer remains the most expensive deal in football history.
Brazilian midfielder Arthur left Barcelona for Juventus in 2020 for €80.6m. The deal was linked to Miralem Pjanic’s move in the opposite direction during the same summer, with Barcelona paying €60m plus a further €5m in potential additions for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international.
Luis Figo’s transfer to Real Madrid remains one of the most controversial departures in Barcelona’s history. The Portugal international, then one of the Catalan club’s leading players, joined their historic rivals in 2000 after Real Madrid paid the €60m release clause in his contract.
Ousmane Dembele moved from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in 2023 after the French club paid €50m for his services. Dembele subsequently won the Ballon d’Or in 2025.
Torres is next on the list, with Barcelona set to collect close to €50m from his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. That figure means the club will come close to recouping the amount invested in his move from Manchester City.
Chile forward Alexis Sanchez joined Arsenal in 2014 for €42.5m. He went on to enjoy a successful period in north London, producing a series of impressive performances for the Gunners.
Paulinho spent only one season with Barcelona but made an attacking impact, scoring nine goals. The Brazilian joined in 2017 for €40m before returning to Guangzhou Evergrande, who later paid an additional €2.5m to complete the deal.
Malcom was another short-lived signing at Barcelona, spending just one season with the club. He arrived from Bordeaux for €41m and was sold to Russian side Zenit the following year for €41.5m.
Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen left Barcelona for Valencia in 2019 for €35m. The transfer was also part of an exchange of goalkeepers, with Neto moving to Barcelona in the same operation for €26m.
