French-born forward Yvan Ikia Dimi says he is in no rush to decide his international future, despite the possibility of representing the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The 21-year-old winger, who currently plays for Polish top-flight side Górnik Zabrze, is focusing on establishing himself at club level before making a final call on which country to represent.
Born in France to Congolese parents, Dimi is eligible to play for both France and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He has already featured for France at youth level, including appearances for the under-18 and under-20 teams, and was part of the squad that won the Mediterranean Games.
However, the option of switching allegiance to the Leopards remains firmly on the table.
Speaking in an interview, the young attacker acknowledged the emotional significance of representing his heritage.
“Representing my parents’ country is a source of pride. But today, my priority remains my club.”
Dimi recently joined Górnik Zabrze from Amiens SC and is still adapting to his new environment in Poland.
Since his arrival, he has been gradually building his presence within the squad, showing glimpses of his attacking ability while working towards consistency.
For now, his immediate goal is to secure regular playing time and continue his development. The winger believes that performing consistently at club level will better position him for any future international decision.
His situation reflects a growing trend among young players of African descent born in Europe, who often face the choice between representing their country of birth or their country of origin.
For many African nations, such decisions can significantly impact the strength of their national teams.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Dimi’s progress is being closely monitored, with football authorities and supporters keen to see whether he will eventually commit to the national team.
His current focus on development suggests a measured approach, one that prioritises growth over immediate decisions.
As he continues to gain experience in European football, the question of his international future is likely to resurface.
