No contact from Morocco, says in-form AZ talent

Ayoub Oufkir has confirmed he has yet to decide his international future, stating that he remains focused on representing the Netherlands despite ongoing speculation over a potential switch to Morocco.

The 20-year-old forward, who plays for AZ Alkmaar, has attracted attention following a strong start at youth international level. His performances have placed him among a growing group of dual-nationality players faced with choosing between two national teams.

In comments to Dutch outlet VoetbalPrimeur, Oufkir revealed that he has not received any approach from the Moroccan authorities.

“I have not been contacted by the Moroccan Federation. I am currently focused on the Dutch national team, and I strive to give my best every time I am called up.”

Strong Start With Netherlands

Oufkir’s rise has been underlined by an impressive debut for the Netherlands Under-21 side. During the most recent international break, he scored a goal and provided an assist in a 2-1 victory over Belgium, a performance that quickly drew attention.

The forward described the experience as a significant milestone in his career, highlighting the emotional impact of representing his country at international level.

“This is something you always dream about. Wearing the national team jersey gives me a great morale boost, and I’ve noticed that recently. It’s a very wonderful feeling.”

His contributions have reinforced his status as a promising attacking talent within the Dutch system, where he has already begun to establish himself among the next generation of players pushing for senior recognition.

Morocco Option Remains Open

Despite his current involvement with the Netherlands, Oufkir has not ruled out the possibility of representing Morocco in the future. With several dual-nationality players opting to play for the North African nation in recent years, speculation around his international allegiance has intensified.

The player acknowledged this uncertainty, making clear that no final decision has yet been taken.

“I play for the Netherlands and I feel very comfortable within the national team, but I have not yet made my final decision, and all options are still open.”

His comments suggest a measured approach, balancing immediate opportunities with longer-term considerations about his international career.

Youth Success Boosts Prospects

Oufkir’s credentials were further strengthened last summer when he played a key role in helping the Netherlands Under-19 team secure the European Championship title. That achievement has increased expectations around his future, both at club and international level.

With his development continuing at AZ Alkmaar and his performances attracting growing recognition, the forward is widely seen as a player with significant potential.

Decision Yet to Come

For now, Oufkir appears content to focus on his progress within the Dutch setup, while leaving the door open for future possibilities. The absence of contact from Morocco has, for the time being, simplified his immediate outlook.

Rising Talent Weighs His International Future

As Ayoub Oufkir’s career gathers momentum, the question of his international allegiance remains unresolved. While he continues to thrive with the Netherlands, his openness to all options ensures that his next move on the international stage will be closely watched.
