FIFA president Infantino to visit Algeria for talks and facility inauguration

Gianni Infantino is set to make an official visit to Algeria on Thursday, 9 April 2026, where he will meet senior football and government officials as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the global governing body and the North African nation.

The FIFA president is expected to arrive in Algiers, where he will be welcomed by Walid Sadi, who also serves as Algeria’s Minister of Sports.

During the visit, Infantino is scheduled to hold talks with Abdelmadjid Tebboune. The meeting will focus on strengthening collaboration between Algeria and FIFA, particularly in relation to football infrastructure development and support for major sporting initiatives in the country.

FIFA PRESIDENT REASON

The discussions are expected to underline FIFA’s continued backing for projects designed to improve facilities and nurture football talent across Algeria.

As part of his trip, Infantino will also travel to Tlemcen alongside Sadi to officially inaugurate the Lalla Setti Regional Technical Centre. The facility has been largely funded through FIFA’s development initiative, the FIFA Forward Programme.

The new complex has been built to serve as a key centre for the training and identification of young footballers, with officials viewing it as a strategic step in strengthening the country’s football development structure.

The project had previously been delayed for several years before work was revived and eventually completed after Sadi assumed leadership of the Algerian Football Federation. According to officials, completing the facility became a priority for the federation following his appointment.

Now finished and meeting international standards, the Lalla Setti centre is expected to play a central role in shaping the future of Algerian football by providing improved facilities for youth development and technical training.

Algeria Infrastructure

The inauguration highlights FIFA’s wider efforts to invest in football infrastructure around the world, particularly through programmes designed to support national associations in developing long-term talent pathways.

For Algeria, the new centre represents an important milestone in efforts to strengthen the country’s football ecosystem and ensure the next generation of players can benefit from modern training environments.

Infantino’s visit is also seen as a symbol of the close working relationship between FIFA and Algeria as the country continues to invest in facilities and programmes aimed at improving the standard of football at both grassroots and elite levels.
