Juventus are preparing an approach for Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, but their hopes of signing the Ukraine international on loan are expected to be met with resistance from the Spanish club.
According to Defensa Central, citing Filippo Cornacchia of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are set to make a move for Lunin in the near future as they assess their goalkeeping options.
The Italian club’s first preference is reportedly a deal for Zion Suzuki. The goalkeeper joined Parma after a spell at Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus are initially attempting to reach an agreement with his club.
However, if negotiations with Parma do not progress quickly, Juventus could turn to Lunin as an alternative. The Turin club, managed by Luciano Spalletti, have placed the Real Madrid goalkeeper on their list of possible targets should their preferred option prove unavailable.
Lunin has started Real Madrid’s matches during the current pre-season campaign. He has been given an opportunity in goal after Thibaut Courtois arrived at Valdebebas only a few days ago.
Despite Juventus’ interest, Real Madrid are not currently considering allowing Lunin to leave. The Ukrainian goalkeeper renewed his contract with the club about two years ago, with the agreement keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2030.
That long-term commitment is likely to make a temporary move difficult, particularly as Lunin has continued to be regarded as an important member of the squad. Real Madrid’s position means Juventus may have to move quickly if they want to test the Spanish club’s resolve before settling on another option.
No details have been disclosed in Italy about the amount Juventus would be prepared to pay to secure Lunin’s services. The goalkeeper, who joined Real Madrid and has competed for his place behind Courtois, enjoyed the best period of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu during the 2023-24 season.
Lunin’s market value has also changed significantly. Transfermarkt previously valued him at 25m euros, but his current valuation is listed at 12m euros.
The potential move is therefore dependent on two factors: whether Juventus can reach an agreement with Parma for Suzuki and whether Real Madrid are willing to reconsider their stance on Lunin. At present, the Italian club’s interest remains exploratory, while Real Madrid’s preference is for the goalkeeper to remain under contract and continue with the squad through 2030.
