Turkish striker Enes Unal has completed his move from Bournemouth back to Getafe, leaving the Premier League club as a free agent.
Bournemouth could still receive up to £1.3m in performance-related bonuses as part of the agreement, while the club has also retained a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer involving the 29-year-old.
Unal returns to Getafe after an injury-hit spell with Bournemouth, where his progress was disrupted by a serious knee problem and a later muscle injury.
The forward suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee in January 2025. The setback kept him out of action for several months before he returned to competitive football in October 2025.
Unal then sustained a minor strain to his right abductor muscle in January 2026, adding to the interruptions that affected his time at Bournemouth.
The Turkey international originally joined Bournemouth from Getafe on an initial loan deal in January 2024. His transfer was made permanent later that year, with Bournemouth paying about £13m to sign him.
His departure brings an end to a period in which he was unable to establish an uninterrupted run because of injury. Despite that, Bournemouth said he had made a positive impact within the squad and during his time on the pitch.
“A popular figure within the squad, Unal leaves having made a positive contribution both on and off the pitch during his time with the Cherries,” said a Bournemouth statement.
“AFC Bournemouth would like to thank Enes for his efforts during his time with the club and wish him every success for the future.”
Unal’s return to Getafe marks a move back to the club where he had previously spent time before joining Bournemouth. The 29-year-old now leaves the Premier League side without a transfer fee being paid immediately, although the bonus provisions and future-sale percentage give Bournemouth the possibility of receiving further income.
His Bournemouth spell began with the January 2024 loan move from Getafe, before the deal was converted into a permanent transfer later that year. The subsequent injuries limited his availability, with the ACL problem in particular ruling him out for several months.
With the move now completed, Unal will continue his career at Getafe, while Bournemouth have formally thanked him for his contribution and wished him well for the future.
