Barcelona’s proposed sale of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain has been delayed again, with the Spain forward still absent from Hansi Flick’s pre-season training camp.
Torres had been expected to return to Barcelona’s preparations on 12 August after an extended summer break. His holiday followed a dramatic end to the previous campaign, when he scored the winning goal as Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The 26-year-old enjoyed the most prolific season of his career in 2025-26, scoring 21 goals in all competitions. His contribution helped Barcelona secure a second successive LaLiga title, but Torres is now seeking a move to Paris before the final year of his contract begins.
Paris Saint-Germain have offered €50m for the former Manchester City striker, with the proposal accepted by Barcelona’s hierarchy. Although Barcelona would prefer to keep the player, manager Flick is understood to have accepted that Torres is likely to leave the club.
However, the transfer has not yet been completed, leaving Torres caught between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. According to Marca, the forward is waiting for confirmation from Barcelona that he is allowed to travel to the French capital and finish the remaining details of his departure.
Until that decision is made, Torres will not return to training. His continued absence means he remains outside Flick’s pre-season plans while the two clubs work through the final stage of the agreement.
The conclusion of the deal has also been affected by Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Aston Villa. The club’s delegation are returning from Salzburg after the match, meaning the process has been slowed further and Torres must wait longer before completing his move away from Catalonia.
Torres joined Barcelona after leaving Manchester City and has now reached the final season of his contract. His 21-goal return last season represented a career best, while back-to-back LaLiga triumphs strengthened his standing within the squad.
Despite those achievements, Barcelona’s willingness to accept Paris Saint-Germain’s €50m offer has opened the way for a transfer. The immediate issue is whether Torres can be cleared to travel to France, with the player choosing not to train until his future is resolved.
Flick’s squad is therefore continuing pre-season without one of its attacking options. For now, Torres remains a Barcelona player on paper, but the forward is waiting for permission to make the move that both he and Paris Saint-Germain are seeking.
