Al-Nassr could lose two players without receiving transfer fees before the start of the 2026-27 season after the Saudi Pro League’s Financial Control Committee again rejected the club’s request to register Abdulrahman Ghareeb’s new contract.
According to Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, Al-Nassr’s latest application to register the Saudi winger was turned down despite the club being allowed to sign Portuguese midfielder Samu Costa from Real Mallorca.
The Riyadh-based club had reached an agreement with Ghareeb two months ago to extend his contract, which had expired at the end of last season. However, Al-Nassr have so far been unable to activate the renewal because of the financial restrictions imposed on the club.
The club subsequently submitted a further request to the league’s financial authorities, particularly after approval was granted for Costa’s arrival. That application was also rejected, leaving Ghareeb’s future unresolved.
If Al-Nassr fail to register the agreement before the end of the current summer transfer window, the 29-year-old could leave the club without a transfer fee being paid.
Ghareeb had already been close to leaving Al-Nassr during the previous winter transfer window. Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad both expressed an interest in signing him, but he ultimately chose to renew his association with Al-Nassr.
He was one of the club’s leading performers in the most recent edition of the AFC Champions League Two. Ghareeb helped Al-Nassr reach the final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Japanese side Gamba Osaka.
The same registration problem also affects goalkeeper Raghid Al-Najjar. He has agreed a contract renewal with Al-Nassr, but the new deal has not yet been registered.
Al-Nassr’s limited activity in the current summer transfer window has been linked to the financial crisis facing the club. They have made only one signing so far, with Costa joining from Real Mallorca to replace Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
The situation leaves Al-Nassr under pressure to resolve its financial and registration difficulties before the new Saudi Pro League campaign begins. Unless the club can complete the required registration process, both Ghareeb and Al-Najjar could become available to other clubs without Al-Nassr receiving compensation.
