RB Leipzig have secured a contractual right to host Real Madrid in a tribute match as part of Yan Diomande’s record transfer, with the German club also due compensation of about €1.3m if the fixture cannot be arranged.
Diomande, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast forward, has joined Real Madrid in a deal worth €125m, making him the most expensive player in RB Leipzig’s history. The agreement includes a clause for the two clubs to meet in Leipzig, although no date has yet been set.
The arrangement, reported by German newspaper Bild, is understood to be a bonus negotiated by RB Leipzig rather than an additional transfer fee. The club has used similar clauses in several major deals in the past, securing the right to stage friendly matches against leading European sides.
RB Leipzig agreed a match against Manchester City after Josko Gvardiol moved in 2023, while the transfer of Dani Olmo in 2024 included a fixture against Barcelona. Benjamin Sesko’s move in 2025 was followed by an agreement for a meeting with Manchester United. Julian Nagelsmann’s move to Bayern Munich in 2021 also contained a comparable provision.
Real Madrid are expected to play RB Leipzig in the fixture, which is intended to form part of the German club’s preparations for the new campaign. The game would serve as RB Leipzig’s final pre-season test, but its date remains unknown.
RB Leipzig are also scheduled to play another major club in Munich on 15 August. The identity of that opponent is not given in the report, and the timing of the Real Madrid match has yet to be confirmed.
If the tribute game cannot be held because the two clubs are unable to find a suitable date, RB Leipzig will receive compensation estimated at €1.3m. That figure is broadly equivalent to the income the club might have generated from staging the match, including ticket sales and hospitality revenue.
The clause therefore protects RB Leipzig from losing the expected commercial value of the fixture, even if the game never takes place.
The overall value of Diomande’s transfer could rise to €140m if performance-related conditions linked to his progress and success at Real Madrid are met. However, the deal does not include a percentage of any future sale of the Ivory Coast international.
RB Leipzig have instead agreed a substantial initial fee, potential incentives based on Diomande’s career and the contractual right to host Real Madrid.
Diomande’s association with the Red Bull organisation will also continue beyond his move from RB Leipzig to the Spanish club. At the same time as completing his transfer to Real Madrid, he signed a three-year agreement to become an ambassador for the Red Bull brand.
That deal reflects the profile Diomande has built at an early age. He is regarded as one of the leading emerging attacking talents in world football after making rapid progress and attracting attention with his performances.
If he continues to develop at Real Madrid, Red Bull will have secured a prominent ambassador who represents the brand in the colours of the Spanish club rather than RB Leipzig.
Diomande joins a group of high-profile footballers associated with Red Bull, including Brazil forward Neymar, Tottenham Hotspur player Xavi Simons and Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
