Arsenal are unlikely to give several of their World Cup players major roles when they face Manchester City in the Community Shield on 16 August, according to Arsenal news account ArsenalRadar.
The report says manager Mikel Arteta is expected to place the players’ fitness ahead of fielding them for extended periods in the season-opening fixture. Several key members of the Arsenal squad are returning from a high-intensity summer tournament, and the club is not expected to rush them back into full competitive action.
Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and William Saliba are among those who could be rested for the match or used only for a short period. Their involvement is therefore likely to be managed carefully, with Arteta potentially limiting their minutes rather than asking them to play a full part against Manchester City.
ArsenalRadar said the decision would reflect a priority on player welfare after the demands of international football. The account indicated that Arsenal’s World Cup stars may not be given significant roles in the Community Shield, even though the fixture offers the club an opportunity to begin the campaign with silverware.
